View As

The "View As" feature lets administrators see Luna HR from any employee's perspective. This is useful for troubleshooting, verifying permissions, and understanding what an employee sees when they log in.

How it works

  1. Go to the employee's profile (via Company Structure > Employees)
  2. Click the View as button
  3. Luna HR switches to show you exactly what that employee sees — their dashboard, leave balance, assigned training, pending approvals, etc.
  4. A purple banner appears at the top of the page showing "Viewing as [Employee Name]" with an Exit button
  5. Click Exit to return to your own view

What you see

When viewing as another employee:

  • Dashboard — their personalised dashboard with their pending items and activity
  • Leave — their leave balance and request history
  • Expenses — their expense reports
  • Training — their assigned courses and certifications
  • Assets — equipment assigned to them
  • Filing Cabinet — their documents

The sidebar and navigation reflect the employee's permissions — if they don't have admin access, you won't see admin links while viewing as them.

Important notes

  • Read-only by design — the View As feature is primarily for viewing. While you can technically take actions, all actions are logged with your real admin identity (not the impersonated employee)
  • Audit trail — every action taken while in View As mode is logged with both the admin's identity and the viewed employee's identity
  • Admin only — only users with the admin permission can use View As
  • No sensitive data exposure — View As respects the same data boundaries as normal access

Use cases

  • Troubleshooting — an employee reports they can't see something. View As lets you see exactly what they see
  • Onboarding verification — check that a new employee's permissions, leave balance, and assigned training are set up correctly
  • Demo purposes — show stakeholders what the employee experience looks like
