Performance
The Performance module brings together goals, reviews, 1:1 meetings, and feedback in one place. It helps managers and employees stay aligned on expectations and track progress throughout the year.
Key features
- Goals — set individual goals with key results, deadlines, and progress tracking
- Reviews — run structured review cycles with customisable templates
- 360 feedback — gather peer, upward and skip-level input alongside the manager's review, anonymised to the recipient
- 1:1 meetings — schedule and track regular one-to-one conversations with agenda items and action points
- Feedback — give and receive feedback (praise, constructive, or general) at any time
How it works
Goals
Employees and managers can create goals together:
- Go to Performance > Goals
- Click New Goal
- Define the goal with a title, description, and due date
- Add key results — measurable milestones that indicate progress
- Update progress over time as key results are achieved
Goals can be aligned to team or company objectives, making it easy to see how individual work contributes to the bigger picture.
Reviews
Review cycles are structured performance assessments, typically run quarterly or annually:
- An admin creates a draft review cycle from a template in Admin > Performance
- The admin activates the cycle. Luna shows a preview of who will be covered before anything is sent, then creates one review per active employee and asks each of them for a self-assessment
- Managers complete their assessment of each direct report
- A review meeting is held to discuss the results
- The employee acknowledges the review once it's submitted
Employees can't see a review until their manager submits it — an in-progress draft stays private to the reviewer.
Note: only employees with a line manager set are included in a cycle, because Luna resolves the reviewer from the reporting line. Anyone without one is listed by name in the activation dialog so you can fix their profile before sending anything out.
360 feedback
Any review can gather input from more than just the line manager:
- Open the review and use Invite on the 360 feedback panel
- Choose the relationship — peer, direct report (upward feedback), or skip-level — and select several colleagues at once
- Each person is emailed a link and chased again at the cycle's 14, 7 and 0 day reminders while their response is outstanding
- Responses appear on the review as they come in
Who sees what:
| | Manager & admins | The person being reviewed | |---|---|---| | Reviewer names | Visible | Hidden — shown as "Peer 1", "Direct report 2" | | Response content | Always visible | Released once at least 3 peer/upward/skip-level responses are in | | Outstanding invites | Visible | Hidden | | Manager-only notes | Visible | Never visible |
The three-response threshold stops a single response being traced back to whoever wrote it. Below it, the recipient sees how many responses are in but not what they say.
Raters can answer N/A on any rating question when they have no basis to judge — those answers are excluded from averages rather than counted as a low score.
1:1 meetings
Regular 1:1s keep managers and reports aligned:
- Go to Performance > 1:1s
- Create or join a 1:1 series with your manager or report
- Add agenda items before each meeting
- During the meeting, capture notes and action points
- Action points carry forward to the next 1:1 until completed
Feedback
Feedback can be given at any time, not just during formal reviews:
- Praise — recognise great work
- Constructive — suggest improvements
- General — share observations
Feedback is visible to the person who gave it and the person who received it. It is not surfaced to the recipient's manager, and it is separate from the 360 responses gathered during a review cycle.
Admin setup
Configure review templates and cycle timelines from Admin > Performance.
Built-in templates
Luna ships six starter templates: Quarterly Check-in, Mid-Year Review, Annual Performance Review, Probation Review, 360° Feedback Review, and SWOT Development Review. All use a 1–5 scale with the meaning of each point written into the question, so ratings mean the same thing across managers.
- Load built-in adds any templates you don't already have
- Reset built-ins re-applies Luna's current wording to the built-in templates, discarding any edits you've made to them. Templates you created yourself are never touched, and cycles already created keep the questions they were built with
Duplicate a built-in template before customising it if you want to keep the original intact.
